Two thumbs up.
Total chick flick but a cute movie. Synopsis: Based on Anne Brashares's young-adult novel, this coming-of-age tale centers on four best friends. The girls buy a mysterious pair of pants that fits each of them despite their differing sizes and makes the wearer feel fabulous. When faced with spending their first summer apart from one another, the pals decide they'll swap the pants so that each girl in turn can enjoy their magic during vacation. Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn star.
One thumb up and one thumb down.
Strange movie but kind of cute. Synopsis: Ryan Gosling plays the title character in this oddball comedy about a delusional young man who buys a life-size sex doll over the Internet -- and then falls in love with her. When the besotted young man starts telling people that the doll is his girlfriend, his brother and sister-in-law decide it's time to intervene in this film co-starring Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer, Kelli Garner and Paul Schneider.
Two thumbs up.
Much funnier than I had anticipated. Synopsis: John C. Reilly stars as fictional pop star Dewey Cox in this parody of the increasingly predictable rags-to-riches music biopic. On his hard-knocks journey toward stardom, Dewey crosses paths with the likes of Elvis, Buddy Holly and the Beatles. Before long, Dewey is writing hits, making women swoon and doing food endorsements -- in between over-the-top moments of silliness, which producers Jake Kasdan and Judd Apatow are so adept at creating.
Two thumbs up.
Cute and funny movie. Tyler Perry has a funny movie. Synopsis: Brenda (Angela Bassett), a struggling single mom in Chicago's inner city, learns that the father she never knew has died. With her three kids in tow, she heads to Georgia for the funeral, where she meets her dad's raucous family. Despite their boisterous manner, Brenda finds them a comforting presence in her fragmented life. Tyler Perry wrote, directed and co-stars in this adaptation of his play, which also features Irma P. Hall and Rick Fox.
