If you are a mom to small children, chances are you have bought uncrustables (or at least considered it). But as we all know - they are EXTREMELY overpriced. It's like $3.50 for 6 sandwiches. As many sandwiches as my kids eat (well, Peyton specifically) - I would go broke buying uncrustables sandwiches. So, I've created my own and you should, too. It's an exceptionally easy process and much more cost and time efficient than buying them pre made or making them each and every time your child asks you for a "circle fanwhich."
I start with a 2lb. loaf of bread from the discount bakery which was $1. This has enough bread for 12 sandwiches.
Split the bread into two columns - put peanut butter on one column and jelly on the other column.

Put them together as a sandwich.
Use a measuring cup (1 c.) and press down on the sandwich and voila! Uncrustables!

I put them in individual ziploc bags and throw them in the freezer.
When you're ready to serve your sandwich, throw it in the microwave and heat each side 8 seconds. (microwave times will vary). If it's still cold, do 2 seconds on each side. Just keep heating until it is room temperature. Take the ziploc bag and stick it back in your drawer or wherever you keep your baggies. Reuse it when you make your next batch of sandwiches. There is absolutely no sense in throwing out that baggie especially if you're putting another sandwich in it.
Cost of bread: $1
Cost of jelly: about .25
Cost of peanut butter: about .50
Cost of ziploc bags: about .50 (reuse these next time and avoid this cost)
Total cost for 12 sandwiches $2.25
Cost of 12 uncrustables $7.00
Savings $4.75

That's a great idea. I have the pampered chef thingie to use, but I make my kids eat their crusts....mean mommy :( but I hate them wasting them. That is pretty cheap though. I have never been to the discount bakery. I'll have to check it out sometime. I do buy bread at Sam's to save though. :)
Pure Genious! You can also use a large cookie cutter, if you want cute shapes :) I had never thought about freezing them. What a great idea!
