Today Peyton and I had a date to Disney Playhouse Live! It featured four of Disney's shows: Little Einsteins, Tigger and Pooh, Handy Manny, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I had been tossing and turning about taking Peyton to the show - it was ridiculously overpriced - but I knew he would have a blast. So, I bit the bullet and bought tickets yesterday (nothing like waiting until last minute).
We've been having bedtime issues with the boys and I bribed Peyton last night to sleep in his bed by telling him I would take him to the "big show" today. It worked. I picked him up at 2:30 today and we headed downtown. We got a great parking spot at a meter (which was $8 cheaper than what they were charging to park) and we went in the side door without waiting to get in at all! We headed straight to the restroom and then to our seats.
On the way in, I was overwhelmed at all of the souvenir items that they had for sale. I was even more overwhelmed at the prices. Good gosh! Seriously. Get me an oxygen mask. I nearly hyperventilated. But, we managed to get seated without falling prey to their marketing ploys. The show started, Peyton seemed interested - not as much as I had anticipated - but we were having a good time. Personally, I wasn't impressed but it was a kid show so I was going to let Peyton be the final judge. About 15 minutes before intermission (which I purposefully called "half time" to keep everything in our lives revolving around football) Peyton informed me that he wanted cotton candy. Of course he wanted cotton candy. He wasn't going to let it go so we headed out to get cotton candy. Unfortunately, the only cotton candy they had came with a souvenir hat and cost $10. Yes, $10. I even went to the regular snack area and asked if they had cotton candy and they said that they didn't so I had to go to the Disney vendors. Figures. So a bathroom break and $10 cotton candy later (oh and a $3.75 diet coke) we headed back to our seats just in time for intermission.
The show started back and Peyton was in a grumpy mood. I'm not sure what his deal was. But he calmed down when Mickey came out. He even got up and we danced while they sang "hot dog." It was pretty funny. And at one point everyone was clapping with the music and I was taking pictures - Peyton fussed at me and told me to clap so I did. I was so glad to see him really enjoying himself.
The show ended and we got up to leave and at that point, Peyton was begging for one of the flashy light things they were selling for $20. I did my best and we hauled out of there so I didn't have to buy one. I was successful even though there was pouting. Trey and I ended up getting home about the same time so we took the boys to McDonald's and let them play. So it was a great day for the boys - lots of fun things going on today.
Here are a few pictures from the show.
