"The Rock" - Rockingham, SC

We made many stops on our way home from Pinehurst this weekend and the Rockingham Speedway was one of them (others to come). This racetrack is known as "The Rock." They don't have any major races here anymore but we have passed this raceway countless times on the way to visit mamaw and papoo and we have never stopped. But as we passed by this weekend, they were gearing up for a 4th of July race and we saw a car out front so we stopped. Peyton has really been into racing lately so we thought this would be really cool (by the way - we are NOT race fans AT ALL. Nothing against the sport, but we are more of the football type fans.....however, we are trying to get into it since Peyton is so much in love with it). I think I enjoyed checking out the car more than anyone (do you notice a pattern with me?!?!?) - I have never seen a race car up close so this was pretty cool. I was most interested in seeing the drivers seat and all of the dials and steering equipment on the inside. It was pretty much what I had imagined but I still enjoyed checking it out.

Trey pointed out to Peyton that this car's headlights were just like Lightning McQueens - just stickers! Thought that was pretty neat...I never would have noticed that.

This is a statue outside the entrance that is engraved with the race winner's names. I saw some names I was familiar with and others I had never heard of. But what a really cool tradition to have your name carved into "The rock" after you win.

If anyone doesn't know who Dale Earnhardt is, well then you should probably go and hide under a rock.
